Closing Achievement Gaps: The Next Phase in Improving CA’s
Public Schools (2005)
California Business for Education Excellence released “Closing Achievement Gaps
at All Grade Levels; The Next Phase in Improving
California’s Public Schools.”
This
plan provides a
comprehensive set of public education reforms designed to take the necessary
next steps to close achievement gaps in our public schools. Independently and
combined, these recommendations will help raise expectations and achievement,
encourage innovation and choice, and create a more robust accountability system
that rewards good schools and identifies those schools that are failing.

Reaching Higher: A
Roadmap for the Future of Education Reform (2001)
In 2001, California
Business for Education Excellence published a report, Reaching Higher: Restoring
Excellence to California Public Education, which describes the organization’s
long-range view of the important ingredients needed to achieve high standards
and accountability in the state’s public schools. The report is organized around
the core strategies - standards, measurement, accountability, competition and
flexibility - that we think are essential for California to make real progress.
